Progress Report on Blind Kitten Ray Ray

Our latest rescue kitten has a name--Ray Ray, yes after Ray Charles.

He was taken to the best feline ophthalmologist in Miami, Dr. Karpanski. Sadly Ray Ray was born with a defect, no eyes, that he will never be able to see. But that does not stop this kitten from acting like a kitten! He can run, play, climb, and jump down.  It is amazing to watch him move around and play like any other kitten.  Blind kittens rely on their other senses.

We want to thank every person who played a role in saving Ray Ray and donated for his vet care. This year has been one of the worse stray kitten season, with hundreds born and found and not enough shelters and volunteers to bottle feed and care for them.  This blind kitty was spotted in Little Haiti (Miami) and posted on Facebook for pleas to rescue him. Riverfront Cats was tagged after a couple of days and we stepped in.

Ray Ray had minor health issues for which he has been treated. He did test negative for feline Aids and Leukemia and is ready for adoption!

However he bonded with another rescue black kitten of the same age.  Him and Rocky are like fraternal twins.  They play together, sleep together, and eat together in unison.  Therefore we will only adopt them out together. Dasher Got Adopted!

Day 5: Dasher loves his new cat daddy Jason

Great news! Dasher, our Christmas kitten,  was adopted two weeks ago and adjusted rather quickly. In just two days he was meeting and getting along with resident tuxedo cat, Sam.  Dasher also loves his new daddy. It's an all boys club in this household and no fighting. Just respect and all around love.  Another happy ending.

We love these happy endings. It fuels our spirit, keeps us motivated to continue helping these helpless creatures who are grateful for shelter, food, warmth and love.

Throwback Thursday- Helio when he was named Cinderella

This is Helio, the fourth Riverfront kitten we rescued six years ago. We thought this kitten was a female and named it Cinderella. Upon learning kitten was male we renamed him after race car driver Helio Castroneves.  He was the fastest kitty of the ten rescue kittens that zoomed up and down the condo hallway. This is him propping his chin with his paw.  No photoshop was used!

Piper the Black Kitten is Named after Being Rescued from Pipe

This story is a purrfect example of a community coming together to save a trapped kitten.

A kitten was heard for two days straight crying underground a Walgreen's pharmacy story in Miami.
Word spread virally on Facebook and local volunteers from  pet shelters, local businesses, and the fire department, all collaborated to attempt to rescue the kitten which was clearly stuck inside a pipe.

In watching the news report, little did we know it was a black kitten!Thankfully the kitten did not have fluid in the lungs or major injuries.  

Another one saved thanks to many good Samaritans. It can be done!
